I really liked your opening and how it was just a normal day (little did we know!). I also like your adverbial phrase ‘Little by little’ that you used as a sentence opener.
Although you have used and to link ideas, I wonder if you could experiment with other conjunctions? This might help to add more flow to your writing and a varied sentence structure.
